Alice in Wonderland

I have an Mad Hatter style top hat and I was wondering if I could get away with wearing it at Steampunk events.  So I looked up the publication date and it was 1865. According to wikipedia, the Victorian Era was 1837 to 1901, so I'm in the right time period. My hat is red and black velvet, and looks pretty modern, but since the event starts Friday, and I have to set up camp tomorrow, it will have to do!

I'm almost done with my waist cincher for my Steampunk Circus outfit, so I just have to wrap that up and start throwing camping gear into the truck.

Yay I Am Going to Boomtown

I took a leap of faith and volunteered at a local event.  When they said yes, I got so excited. The event is this weekend. It will be madness getting ready, but it is the kind of madness I love. If I hadn't emailed the coordinator this wouldn't have happened. Sometimes we have to take a leap of faith to get to the abundance we seek. I realized that if I didn't send that email, telling them I was out here in the universe, the answer would have been no already. Then I told myself 100 reasons they might say no. Then they said YES!  So now I'm going to my first Steampunk event ever. I'm going to Boomtown! I will be working three five hour shifts, and they haven't told me what I'd be doing yet. I put in for parking attendant and keeping their green exhibit on the green side out here in the desert, but I'm checking in at the box office, so I wonder if I'm working gate. We'll see!

Boomtown is in Apple Valley, CA.

Tutorial Lady's Steampunk Coat

I'm right in the middle of moving, but I definitely want to make a steampunk jacket after I saw a woman in Downtown Disney yesterday with a top hat with metal Mickey Mouse ears. OMG I am in love with her outfit.  She looked amazing. Of all the times for my camera batteries to die.  I tried to find her on Bing and Google and no luck so far, but it seems there's a steampunk group that hangs out at Downtown Disney.  Just my luck I'd find them now right when I'm moving 200 miles away from Anaheim.

Steampunk Belly Dancing

It's really late and I'm really tired but I have this to share with you. Love, love, love the costumes. And the music. Must watch this again when I'm not so tired. But I have archery in the morning so it's off to sleep.

The Steampunk Archer

Recently I got some leather to make a quiver. I want to be a Steampunk archer so I'm making the whole kit. I want to emboss some sort of design on the leather but I haven't figured out what yet. I'm still researching steampunk and what it is and what it isn't.

So I need to make an outfit, and a quiver, and arrows, and a bow. Big project.

Just Can't Connect

I've been trying to meet people over on the Steampunk Empire. So far not much luck. I like one guy named Jack, but he hasn't been on much and when I bumped into him today he wss on the phone and I never did get to say more than hello to him. I keep meaning to look up Steampunk on Meetup.com, so I can get on with meeting some real life people and doing Steampunk stuff, but I can't remember my password. I guess I'll be all alone in my pursuits for a while more, maybe forever.

One person in the Steampunk chat seemed interested in my art, but when I pointed her to my Etsy shop, she stopped talking to me all together. I don't know if she'd judged me and found me wanting, or was so busy mulititasking I no longer held her attention. But when someone else came in the chatroom and said hello to her she started talking to them, ignoring my last five attempts at having an art conversation.
I think it's fair to say the people I've met there so far are on the snobby side. I'm about to give up on the place.
